Walmart is Launching a Membership Service This Month

Walmart announced early Tuesday that it's introducing a membership service that comes with free delivery, fuel discounts and no waiting in checkout lines.

Walmart Plus will cost $98 a year or $12.95 a month and will debut in the U.S. on September 15.

“We are a company committed to meeting our customers’ needs,” says Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer at Walmart. “We’ve designed this program as the ultimate life hack for them.”

Walmart was already offering a similar service called Delivery Unlimited, which entitled customers to an unlimited number of deliveries for a yearly or monthly fee; Delivery Unlimited subscribers will automatically be rolled into Walmart Plus.

The service is obviously meant to challenge Amazon's Prime service, which costs $119 a year or $12.99 a month.
