Kacey Musgraves brought Megan Moroney on stage as a surprise guest at her latest tour stop in Los Angeles, California.

The two country stars teamed up during the second night of Musgraves’ headlining “Middle of Nowhere Tour” stop at the Crypto.com Arena. She and Moroney performed “Bells & Whistles” live for the first time. The duet appeared on Moroney’s third studio record, Cloud 9, which released earlier this year. Moroney wrote it with Mackenzie Carpenter, Micah Carpenter and Ben Williams.

“She don't get mad/ She don't get mean/ She lets you be right when you're wrong as can be/ I know why you like her/ She's sweet and she's simple/ She's like me without the bells and the whistles”

Moroney previously shared how Musgraves inspired her to write her own music. She marked a full-circle moment in 2024, when the pair appeared alongside one another in the American Currents: State of the Music exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The “Unbroken Circle” section of the annual exhibit spotlights connections between artists and their most significant influences. Moroney shared a 10-year-old throwback photo with Musgraves as she marked the exhibit's debut.

“This album [Musgraves’ debut studio record, Same Trailer Different Park], I think, changed the trajectory of my life,” Moroney told Bobby Bones on an episode of The BobbyCast earlier this year. “My dad and I, obviously, he taught me how to play guitar and we really connected through music growing up. And this was the first album that I showed him. And I just remember hearing this album, and I’m like, ‘if I ever write songs, I want it to be something like this,’ because how is she so clever? How is her voice so good? How is she so funny? And it seems really effortless, and it was so country.”

Musgraves released her fifth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, earlier this year. The album features the Texas-born country star’s signature witty songwriting and authentic country influences. Musgraves included collaborations with Gregory Alan Isakov, Billy Strings, Miranda Lambert and country legend Willie Nelson, plus other highlights. She also delivered a new Spanish rendition of “Uncertain, TX” with Intocable. Middle of Nowhere followed 2024’s Deeper Well, 2021’s star-crossed, 2018’s Golden Hour, 2015’s Pageant Material and 2013’s Same Trailer Different Park. Her ongoing “Middle of Nowhere Tour” includes Midland, Carter Faith, Flatland Cavalry and Charles Wesley Godwin on select dates.
