There is a Petition Going Viral to Save Fort Collins' Drive-In Theater

We are pretty lucky in Northern Colorado as we are one of the last cities in America, and definitely the state of Colorado to have a drive-in movie theater. However, it sounds like it may be in a little bit of jeopardy.

Although the Holiday Twin already announced that it will open for the 2017 season on May 5th, there is now a petition that has gone viral asking people to sign to save the theater.

It reads:

The Holiday Twin remains the only drive-in theater in the area, one of six left in Colorado and one of 348 left in the country, according to the National Association of Theater Owners.

This is the start of the 49th Season. Is it the Last Showing?

Wes Webb, the owner, Is getting older. Hungry Developers barrage him with offers to buy the land.  At some point, he has to sell this Treasure of Fort Collins.

We the undersigned, petition the City Of Fort Collins to Provide Funds to purchase, preserve, and purpose the Holiday Twin as a Treasure of Fort Collins.

WE WANT THE HOLIDAY TWIN TO BE A PERMANENT PART OF FORT COLLINS

This is a unique venue in Fort Collins, and can be self-funded with revenue from Food Tax (Food Trucks, etc) and from Ticket Sales.  It could be run as a Park, much like City Park.

So far over 6,000 people have signed the Chage.org petition.

The Holiday Twin responded to the Coloradoan when asked about the petition and said this:

In regards to your inquiry about the petition for the Holiday Twin Drive In Theatre, we did not start the petition.

The proposed development, Mountain’s Edge, and its progress is available on the city’s website.

We plan to open as scheduled for the summer season. We appreciate the support of our fans and look forward to seeing them soon.

Thanks,

Stephanie
