The former Broncos quarterback has struggled in his transition to minor league baseball, batting just .222 with three home runs and 69 strikeouts in 212 at-bats for the Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies, the New York Mets’ low-A affiliate. But as ESPN notes, “Those aren’t numbers that usually lead to a promotion.” Still, such hiccups didn’t stop the Mets from promoting Tebow to St. Lucie in high-A ball.
"I wouldn't say he has excelled,” says Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. "But at the same time, what he's done there--given all the circumstances--justified the promotion."
