Send Good Vibes My Way as I Run a Race with a Donkey This Weekend

As a media member, I get invited to a lot of cool events. However, sometimes I get a little to ambitious for my britches, and end up worrying about my safety...

This weekend Cripple Creek, Colorado hosts its 88th Donkey Derby Day. People from all over the world descend on downtown, drawn by a chance to watch a race inspired by the town’s resident donkey herd, believed to be distant relatives of the original donkeys from the town’s Gold Rush days.

Part of the festival is the Big Ass Media Challenge. A street race where, as I understand it, teams of two from the media are tethered to a racing donkey, and you run with it to the finish line. I also understand these donkeys are fast and stubborn, plus I have a partner in my boss, who runs like ten miles a day... I might walk ten miles a month by accident if I am lucky. Oh, and Cripple Creek is about 9,500 feet in altitude.

Here's to hoping I don't die...
