Tiny Colorado Dog Saves Owner's Life During House Fire

A Berthoud, Colorado man is lucky to be alive and unharmed after a fire broke out inside his mobile home. The man was asleep while the fire started to fill his house with smoke, and he did not have working smoke detectors and was only able to escape because of his miniature pinscher, Bella.

Bella started licking her owner's face until he woke up. He was able to flee his burning house and called 911 from his neighbor's home.

Firefighters with the Berthoud Fire Protection District arrived, and were able to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread to other mobile homes. Officials say that while nobody was injured, the man's house was heavily damaged.

The Berthoud Fire Protection District reminded residents on social media that it is vital to have working smoke detectors because they could save your life...

"If Bella the puppy hadn't woken her owner this story could have been much different. A moment or two longer and the homeowner may not have made it out,"the department wrote on Facebook. "Other than the effective use of 'miniature pinscher smoke detectors' we would like to drive home the message that functional smoke detectors in your home can save your life!"
