Twitter is Getting Rid of all Political Ads

Facebook, we know you listen to everything we do, so please hear us out when we ask you to be a little more like Twitter!

On Wednesday, Twitter announced that it would ban political ads from its platform.

"We've made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally," the company's CEO, Jack Dorsey, said in a (what else?) tweet. "We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought."

The New York Times reports that Twitter's stunning maneuver "is likely to pressure Facebook, which has lately faced heat for allowing politicians to run any claims—even false ones—in political ads on the social network."

To this end, hundreds of Facebook employees recently signed a letter addressed to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, asking him to reconsider how the social-media behemoth treats political ads. Furthermore, both Zuckerberg and Facebook have come under fire from Democratic presidential frontrunners Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden for their hands-off attitude toward such advertising--even in the wake of the 2016 election, when Facebook was manipulated by foreign and domestic operatives to drum up support for President Trump.
