iHeart Health, Wellness, and Awareness focuses on a different topic monthly that impacts our community. This month, we are focusing on National Diabetes Month for November.
National Diabetes Month
Diabetes affects many people at different stages of life. This year, The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases is focusing on youth with diabetes. According to their website, “Diabetes is one of the most common chronic conditions in school-age youth in the United States, affecting about 193,000 youth under 20 years old.” Different ways to help a child manage their diabetes is through managing their blood glucose levels, encouraging healthy habits, keeping them prepared for emergencies, monitoring them for any complications, and making sure they have mental health support for this unique disease.
What You Can Do To Help:
Spreading awareness is always key. There are many ways to engage with this cause. For more information and different ways you can get involved, please see the following information from The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
