We're back - and so is Life Court! Here it is for Tuesday...
Scott and Sadie,
My mom and my sisters think I am out of line here so I want to see what your listeners think in Life Court.
I've been dating a woman for a couple of months who wears glasses. They are very stylish and she has many different colored and shaped frames. No biggie. I wear glasses, too. Without them, I am nearly legally blind.
We get along well and things are starting to progress. Saturday night she invited me over for dinner. After dinner, we're cuddling on the couch. I playfully take my glasses off and her glasses off and jokingly said, "Let's compare prescriptions." I put hers on and discover they are fake. No prescription at all!
She told me she thinks she looks cute in glasses. I agree, she's cute, but who fakes being visually impaired to make a fashion statement?! I shared this with my mother and sisters and they think I'm being overly sensitive. I was one of those kids that had to start wearing glasses when I was in Kindergarten and I have been bullied because of my vision problems.
I guess I just don't understand why someone would go through the hassle of glasses when they don't need them - it's almost dishonest - what else is she hiding or being deceitful about?!
So two questions: 1) Is this a common thing? Do women regularly buy frames and just plain glass lenses because they think they look cute? 2) Am I being too harsh? Are my mother and sisters right? They say it's no big deal, but I think it kinda makes her a liar.
Thanks,
