GOOD VIBES - Former Foster Kid Uses Bday To Help Other Foster Kids

Every weekday Shawn Patrick sheds some light on some good news with His Good Vibes Story. Here is today's...

A little girl in Boston is celebrating her birthday this year by giving back. Laila Burgess was adopted out of foster care when she was eight-months-old and she’s using her seventh birthday to collect basic necessities for other foster kids.

Her mom, Coleen, says Laila was curious about what life is like for children in foster care and she told her they often arrive with nothing, just the clothes on their backs. So that gave the girl the idea to collect items to donate for foster kids in need.

They put the word out on Facebook and have now donated close to 200 bags worth of basics, like an outfit, pajamas, toothbrush and toothpaste and maybe a stuffed animal or a book. The bags have been donated to two nonprofits that work with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and they’ll help make the transition into foster care a little easier.
