GOOD VIBES - 'Godmothers' Surprise Homeless Teen With Magical Quinceañera

Every weekday Shawn Patrick sheds some light on some good news with His Good Vibes Story. Here is today's...

A teen who moved from Mexico to Miami last year thought she would have to give up on her dream of having a quinceañera after her father lost his job, but her “fairy godmothers” didn’t let that happen. Adriana Palma and her family were living in their SUV, struggling to find food and WiFi so she and her brothers could do homework assignments, until a homeless shelter helped them out.

Lian Navarro, a community development associate at the Miami Rescue Mission, and her team of nearly 60 volunteers always provide balloons, cupcakes, and toys for kids at the shelter celebrating a birthday. And when she heard it was Adriana’s 15th birthday, she knew the importance of a quinceañera, which are big celebrations in Hispanic culture. So she and her volunteers went all out to create the ultimate party for her special day.

They created a Parisian pink fairy tale party, gave Adriana a sparkling tiara and a fuchsia ball gown to wear, had a makeup artist give her very first makeup lesson and a hairstylist curled her dark locks. The teen received everything on her wish list and her “fairy godmothers” watched like proud aunties as she unwrapped each gift. They knew they’d done a good job when Adriana thanked them at the end of the night and said, “I felt like a princess.”
