After being on a ventilator for weeks, several nurses in the COVID Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville went above and beyond for their patient. A doctor found them treating the woman to a “spa day” by brushing her hair out and giving her an encouraging pep talk. And they came up with the idea all on their own.

“These men and women, who are the nurses, to me are the absolute frontline heroes and the amount of heart and love that they pour forth towards our patients just inspires me,” says Dr. Wes Ely, who walked by the patient’s room and caught the nurses in the act of kindness.
