GOOD VIBES - College Students Build Tiny Homes For Homeless

Every weekday Shawn Patrick sheds some light on some good news with His Good Vibes Story. Here is today's...

A group of students in the School of Architecture at the University of Kansas have spent the year working on a project that will help the homeless. They partnered with the Lawrence Community Shelter to convert 12 storage containers into homes for homeless families.

The shelter houses 45 single adults now and because of COVID, they had to stop sheltering families, moving them to hotels or permanent housing instead. But this project will allow between six and 12 families to stay in their own freestanding home, with a kitchenette and private bathroom, right in the shelter’s backyard.

The architecture students typically build one single-family home and sell it on the market, but they decided to do this tiny home project for the homeless this year instead. Families will get to start moving in next month and the students will be graduating this weekend.
