Mateo Toscano absolutely loves UPS drivers and when he was given a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he used it to become one. The six-year-old has been battling leukemia since 2017 and to protect his immune system, he’s mostly stayed inside his family’s Stockton, California, home. And one of the highlights of his day was seeing the delivery drivers stop by the house and wave to him.
His wish came true recently and in his first big adventure in years, Mateo spent the day doing the job he loves. He was given his very own UPS uniform and a custom mini UPS truck to make deliveries. Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones gave Mateo a driver’s test and then he hit the road, making stops around the community. When he stopped at City Hall, Mayor Kevin Lincoln declared that it was “Mateo Delivers Hope Day.”
“It’s really cool,” Mateo says. “I just want to be a UPS driver because UPS trucks are the coolest, like they say UPS on the sides and the back.” And judging by the huge smile on his face, being a UPS driver was a wish come true.
