A kind group of kids in Idaho has found a sweet way to help their classmate who’s battling cancer. “Marvelous Maddie,” as her friends call her, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer after seven years of remission. And some of the students at North Star Charter School in Eagle are having a bake sale to raise money for the 10-year-old and her family.
Maddie’s classmate Jarrod Newborn came up with the idea and organized the fundraiser. When asked how much he hopes to raise, he replied, “If I could, to be honest, a million dollars.” That may be ambitious, but if the bake sale sells out, they hope to make a thousand dollars for Maddie’s family.
“I'm just hoping the community can rally around this family and show them they are not in this alone and we care," says Jerrod’s mom, Jessica. "We love Maddie and we just think they are amazing people.”
- A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched for anyone who wants to donate to Maddie’s family, but can’t make it to the bake sale.
