Mickey Guyton reflected on some of her major career milestones and more as she was named TIME’s 2022 Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Guyton shared a stunning photo from her TIME photoshoot on Instagram as she celebrated “this incredible honor,” she wrote in her caption on Monday evening (December 5). “I’m so grateful. My cup overflows. Look at God.”

The “Remember Her Name” star quickly drew praise from other artists, including Runaway June’s Natalie Stovall, Lindsay Ell, Brittney Spencer, Maren Morris, LeAnn Rimes and more. Rimes included Guyton on “the wild,” an empowering track on her latest album god’s work, and included her in a CMT special as she marked 25 years as a recording artist. Rimes said via email, as TIME named Guyton Breakout Artist of the Year, in part: “Hearing her sing these powerful words with me and knowing her journey in this business as a Black woman, it’s just been incredible to see her overcome so much oppression…. it was deeply emotional for both of us.”

Guyton reflected on challenges — some that are “f***ing frustrating” — that women and people of color face in the country music industry, how she deals with it, her powerful National Anthem rendition at the Super Bowl, performances at iconic venues, new music, motherhood and more.
