Vinve McMahon has voluntarily stepped down from his postiion as chairman and CEO of WWE after it was revealed earlier this week that he and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) were being investigated by the company's board of directors. His daughter Stephanie McMahon will serve as interim CEO and chairwoman.
In a press release, WWE said that a "Special Committee of the Board is conducting an investigation into alleged misconduct by its Chairman and CEO Vincent McMahon and John Laurinaitis, head of talent relations, and that, effective immediately, McMahon has voluntarily stepped back from his responsibilities as CEO and Chairman of the Board until the conclusion of the investigation."
A Wall Street Journal report this week that uncovered that McMahon had an affair with a former WWE employee, and when the consensual relationship came to an end, he paid her a secret $3 million settlement to keep quiet about it.
