New Red Lobster Locations in Arkansas May Be Closing Soon

After Red Lobster abruptly closed dozens of locations and filed for bankruptcy last month, even more restaurants could be on the chopping block.

The company recently revealed in bankruptcy court documents a list of more than 130 additional locations it may want to close if it's unable to renegotiate their leases.

In the filings, Red Lobster listed locations where it wishes to reject the leases because they "are likely to continue to drive losses" if everything is kept the same. Restaurant Business Online was first to report the possibility of additional closures.

While Arkansas was not on the initial list of Red Lobster closings, a report released by CNN shows a new list of places, including locations in Arkansas, that are "in danger of shutting down."

The list covers at least 132 locations across 31 states and includes the seafood chain's location in Times Square. The New York Post reported the chain is working to keep that location open as its landlord wants to double the annual rent to $2.2 million.

Red Lobster has yet to announce or confirm any additional store closings.

The Florida-based seafood chain, which won fans with inventions like popcorn shrimp and “endless” seafood deals, has been struggling in recent years with rising lease and labor costs.

Days after filing for bankruptcy, the company issued a statement reassuring customers that it wasn't going out of business.
