What's Your One Thing? With Willie, Is It Weed?

You've probably heard with a great deal of lamenting and gnashing of teeth that 86-year old Willie Nelson has given up smoking pot.

Smoking. Because his lungs just can't take it. He talked about it in an interview last week. Quote...

"I've abused my lungs quite a bit, so breathing is more difficult these days, and I have to be careful. I've mistreated myself since I was 'this big' and started out smoking cedar bark and went from that to cigarettes . . . and that almost killed me."

Now look - I want Willie to live forever. And I am about as libertarian as they come when it comes to marijuana. While I never have, I want you to be able to do you. And I want Willie to be Willie. And I want everyone to be safe and responsible.

And my guess is that your first thought after hearing this was, "Well, he'll still partake - edibles! According to his publicist, you're right! She told "USA Today", quote, "Willie does what he wants when he wants regarding smoking. There are numerous ways of consumption."

No doubt, Willie is familiar with all of them.

Again, you do you and I'll do me and twist up and spark up if that's what floats your boat. But here's what makes me just a little sad when it comes to pot - it seems to overshadow everything. I don't understand that.

It used to be when you said, "I'm from Colorado," people would ask about the mountains and ask if you ski. Now they just get that grin and ask if you're a "mile high." I really find that disappointing. But maybe I'm just old and you kids should get off my lawn.

Willie Nelson is one of the most talented people to have ever graced a stage and shared his gift. He has one of the most distinctive and legendary voices in country music. But chances are, now when you hear "Willie" you think weed.

They say that, regardless of how multi-faceted a person may be, you'll generally be remembered for just one thing.

Is Willie's one thing now weed?

And what do you want your one thing to be?
