After seeing pretty much all my friends post on social media about getting the Presidential Text today, I realized I didn't get it. I was fine with that until I learned a little more.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency estimated about 225 million electronic devices, or about 75 percent of all mobile phones in the country, would receive the alert.
All modern cellphones that meet the WEA criteria will receive these messages.
The reason for the test was to make sure the system works in case one of three types of alerts ever needs to actually be sent...
- Alerts from the president
- Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
- Amber alerts
So, I now know that if there is an imminent threat to my safety or my life I will not know about it... GREAT!
